San Francisco Symphony

Yuri Termirkanov conducting Shostakovich
Symphony No. 7 in C major, Opus 60, Leningrad (1941)

This is a very rare piece that was only previously
performed in SF on January 1943 and October 1996. The Orchestra includes 8
percussionists, 8 horns, 6 trumpets, and 6 trombones. I think, although I
couldn’t see well from our seats in JJ, 3 trombones and 3 trumpets were at the
side above the main stage. The concert was fantastic — I love the power of
precise percussion and a mighty brass section. There was also a really nice bass
clarinet solo and a nice exchange between strings and
woodwinds.
