Chris: In practice I never come even close to 60MB/s before hitting all kinds of other bottlenecks. My Mac Mini caps read and write speeds at 15MB/s. On my MacBook Pro I saw read speeds up to 26MB/s and write speeds up to 20MB/s. Especially the read speeds are almost never sustained because of virtual memory management hitting the local disk when swapping out pages (I suspect that good video editing applications manage memory usage more carefully than my quick and dirty throughput generators).

Hi, Carlos. Thanks for letting me know about Drobo. Do you think the USB 2.0 connection is fast enough for video editing, though?

Do you happen to have a copy of Agitprop still? I’ve been trying to find it, and the developer’s website has gone dark. Since it’s freeware, it should be legally/ethically fine to ask this: would you be willing to email a copy to a fellow iBlog sufferer?

Hi Carlos -- I've really enjoyed reading your blog. You know that mud -- the infamous Kauai red dirt -- will never wash out of your clothes. Consider it a souvenir and a badge of honor. :-)
